Electronic Cross-border Health Services
Cyprus is strengthening cross-border cooperation in the field of Health, through its participation in the European eHealth infrastructure MyHealth@EU, allowing citizens to receive medical care in other countries of the European Union with secure and interoperable exchange of health data. Through these services, citizens travelling or temporarily staying in another EU country will be able to access important health information such as ePrescription and Patient Summary. Other services will gradually be included in the eHealth cross-border services, with the aim of facilitating citizens’ access to high quality healthcare anywhere in Europe.
Access to the Electronic Cross-border Health Services will be provided through the Government Portal Gov.cy.
Available cross-border health services
Patient Health History (Patient Summary) |
---|
The Patient Summary allows healthcare professionals in one EU country to access basic medical information about a patient from another EU country. This record includes important data such as allergies, chronic conditions, medications the patient is taking, previous illnesses and surgeries. |
Electronic Prescription (ePrescription) |
---|
The ePrescription service allows citizens to obtain their medicines from pharmacies in other EU countries without the need for a paper prescription. The e-prescription is issued in the patient’s country of residence and sent in a secure way to the pharmacy in the country where the patient is located, facilitating access to medication. |
Electronic Prescription Execution (eDispensation) |
---|
The eDispensation service complements ePrescription and allows pharmacists in another EU country to fill electronic prescriptions issued in the patient’s country of residence. |
National Contact Points
The communication and exchange of medical data for the eHealth Cross-Border Health Services is achieved through the National Contact Points for eHealth (NCPeH) of each country. Member States of the European Union are required to establish and operate the National Contact Point for eHealth, following the guidelines of the eHealth Network. The aim is to ensure interoperability between the National Health Systems of the Member States, allowing for the secure exchange of medical data through the European eHDSI infrastructure – “MyHealth@EU”.
