Abstract
The primary objective of this proposal is to significantly enhance the access of citizens and businesses to secure and trusted electronic identity means and trust services, as articulated in the European Digital Identity Framework. Through the integration of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) into our Virtual Health Assistant platform, we aim to expand the possibilities for citizens to utilise highly secure electronic identities for accessing both public and private online services, thus improving their ability to control when and with whom their personal data is shared.
This integration is envisioned to validate the technical standards, components, infrastructures, and solutions that support digital signatures and the exchange of person identification data. The process involves adapting our platform to include robust mechanisms for strong user authentication, which are essential for services that require such features under EU law or contractual obligations. By enhancing the platform’s compatibility with the European Digital Identity Wallet, we ensure that it not only meets the technical and security expectations set forth by the European Union but also addresses the practical needs of end-users in a health context.
Our activities include the development and implementation of pilot use cases that test and refine these integrations. These projects are designed to ensure that the platform adheres to the highest standards of data protection and privacy compliance. We will engage with stakeholders – citizens, patients, health and care providers, and policymakers – throughout the development process to gather critical feedback and facilitate workshops to foster understanding and effective use of the enhanced platform.
Furthermore, the project will employ continuous monitoring and evaluation strategies to assess the effectiveness of the digital identity features. This involves establishing key performance indicators focused on the accessibility of health services, security of citizen data, and overall user satisfaction. Feedback collected during the pilot phase will be instrumental in refining the platform’s functionalities to better serve the EU citizens and align with broader EU digital transformation goals.
By contributing to the Digital Europe Programme, this project not only advances the EU’s digital infrastructure but also ensures that the digital transformation within the health sector proceeds in a secure, inclusive, and user-centric manner. This initiative will bolster the resilience and trustworthiness of European digital services, paving the way for a more interconnected and efficient European health data space.
